Case Studies: Hurricane Matthew

Challanges

TEK responded to a 600 Acre Luxury Premier Resort Community in the Bahamas that was impacted by Hurricane Mathew in October 2016 where multiple Luxury High Rise Condominiums, Offices, Restaurants and Luxury Residential Properties were damaged by wind driven rain and storm damage impacting the exterior building envelopes, and glass wall systems affecting the interior high end finishes within the community buildings on the resort community properties. The property Community is home to many celebrities and wealthy business owners where property values ranged from $5,000,000 single Condominiums to as high as $45,000,000 in Beachfront Property residences. Multiple Residences consisted of condo units, town houses, private residences, community buildings, etc. TEK was able to assist the clients with accelerated inspection services including a magnitude of water damage investigations, provide the required Environmental Water damage assessment protocol with proper drying protocol procedures to be immediately implemented to minimize further secondary damages from the loss to minimize and control indoor air quality conditions related to water damage issues that could result in Microbial conditions. This inspection procedure forecasted the required immediate response mechanisms to repair the buildings and speed restoration of the buildings to a pre-Hurricane loss condition.
TEK conducted a wide array of water damage assessments to include a full moisture intrusion damage survey identifying damaged materials, Thermography imagery and Relative humidity conditions to compile data for a full mitigation protocol/work plan. Storm water damages had entered the buildings and collected within the floor and wall cavities that required a full assessment of all properties within the resort community.
TEK arrived on the site and immediately began industrial hygiene and water damage inspection services by mapping and assessing the property without any delay. Once verified, TEK then implemented a site safety action plan to begin the processes of a drying protocol within all affected areas and properties. The client had purchased drying equipment to begin water damage removal, drying procedures and begin proper removal at the discretion of TEK’s Senior Industrial Hygiene Staff to minimize costly damages to high end building finishes and conditions.
